Protecting your Zoom Meetings

With so many people working remotely now I thought I would share some more tips I have learned by trial and error. I have used Zoom for many years now and below are some tips you might want to consider when having meeting.

  • Enable Waiting Rooms: Control who can join the meeting. Users wait in a virtual waiting room until you approve them.
    • Standard User: https://zoom.us/profile/setting
    • Admin: https://zoom.us/account/setting
    • More info: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115000332726-Waiting-Room
  • Require a password when joining by phone: This option is off by default.

  • Do not use a personal meeting ID
    • When you are setting up a meeting under the Meeting ID select the “Generate Automatically” option. This will generate a random meeting id that is only good for that meeting.
  • Lock meeting when everybody is in
    • This is an option I use when the meeting is confidential and I want to make sure no one else can join. Once the meeting has started and you know everyone is on in the bottom right hand corner select the “More” drop-down and select “Lock Meeting” this will prevent anyone else from joining your meeting.
  • Some other settings you might want to look at are: https://zoom.us/profile/setting
    • Always require a password
    • Disable file transfer
    • Mute participants upon entry
    • Screen sharing – Host Only
    • Require a password for Personal Meeting ID (PMI)
